Last Friday, on the way home from work, my 2001 Ford F250 SuperDuty (7.3L Turbo Diesel) experienced an oil-out. Driving along at 55 mph, the first sign of trouble was the check engine light came on and the engine went dead. I coasted approximately .5 mile into a parking lot and got off the Highway. Got out, smelled oil, checked under the hood. Top of the engine was oil soaked and oil was running down the back of the engine onto the ground. I pulled the dipstick and it was dry! Now, being a bit of a gear head I am always checking gauges. The engine was not overheating at all. We changed the filter, drained what was left of the oil from the oil pan (only about 2- 3 qts left) and filled up with oil. Started the engine and drove to the dealership. The problem? A seal or o-ring had blown on the hi-pressure oil line to the oil pump that provides pressure to fire the injectors. $600 later I have a new oil pump, seal kit and hi-pressure oil line. Thanks to AMSOIL AME 15W-40 100% Synthetic Lubrication, I did not spend $10K for a new engine. Loosing 13 qts (16 qt total capacity) would normally spell engine failure. I've been an AMSOIL customer for several years and have had the everyday experiences of cooler running engines, increased fuel economy and the like. This experience further convinces me that AMSOIL is the way to go. We also use AMSOIL in our pulling garden tractors which helps make more horsepower and protects those air cooled engines.
